Would you like to join the Brazeal Dennard Chorale?

 

Detroit is home to the Award-Winning Brazeal Dennard Chorale.  Founded in 1972 by Brazeal Wayne Dennard, the Chorale’s mission is to develop the Choral Singing Art to its highest level and to Remember, Discover and Preserve the compositions of African American Composers.  Members of the Chorale are some of the nation’s most talented and dedicated singers.  The Chorale, under the artistic direction of Alice McAllister Tillman, is seeking singers of like-mind and ability to continue the legacy.  Email BrazealDennard51@gmail.com to request your audition!

 

Audition Specifications:

• Submit your request to audition to BrazealDennard51@gmail.com.

• You are welcome to join one rehearsal, then audition at the end of that rehearsal session. Alternatively, virtual auditions may be submitted at any time.

• Auditions consist of voice range evaluation followed by singing some of the music that was rehearsed that night. You may also sing one selection of your choosing that highlights the strengths of your voice and allows you to be expressive or sing a verse of "The Star-Spangled Banner.”

• If you choose to attend a rehearsal in person and then audition, please bring a copy of the music score for the accompanist.

What to expect if accepted:

• Singers should expect to attend weekly in-person rehearsals at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 2080 W. Grand Blvd, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

• At-home practice is required.

• Expect to attend additional rehearsals as we approach a concert date.

• We rehearse early September into June. In the summer, we may either have a workshop or a rehearsal once a month.

• The Brazeal Dennard Chorale typically performs at various venues throughout the Detroit metro area.  The Chorale is occasionally invited to perform outside of Detroit and Michigan.

• We want all who are interested in singing to join us and have fun in our singing community.

• Annual dues are $150.

• In-person auditions will be held immediately following one rehearsal of your choice. Virtual auditions will be held via video submission.

• High School students involved with their school’s vocal music program should consider our High School Intern program.
